Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, “Shall a child be born to a man who is one hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?”

Genesis 17.17

His name was Abram, he married a distinguished woman called Sarai and lived in Ur of the Chaldeans, a place of idolatry and worship of other “gods” (Genesis 11.29,31). As well as being a successful farmer, he was also serious and interested in knowing the true God, refusing to invoke false deities. One day, he heard the voice of the Lord telling him to leave his land and go to a place that would be shown to him. Because he believed in God, Abraham obeyed His command (read Genesis 12)!

Abraham took Lot, the son of his deceased brother, with him. Abraham raised his nephew and taught him to walk with God, the only Lord. This happened four thousand years ago. Abraham left without knowing his destination, but the Most High was watching over him and guiding his steps. God's servants act by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5.7), because they are sure that all they have to do is pray to see God's hand at work on their behalf. The Lord is always the same!

Sarah was barren and, for years, she waited for God's promise to be fulfilled. Both she and Abraham knew that the redemption of the world would come through their seed. Days, months and years passed and the promise didn't come true. However, when he heard that the word would come true, Abraham fell on his face and laughed, because only God could do that work. They had always believed in the Most High and served Him.

Everyone saw how Abraham laughed at this news, but none of them understood what was going on inside him, because the Lord was saying something special in his heart, an inaudible message. The impossible would happen in spite of the disbelief caused by the long waiting period of those who knew the story. There was joy in Abraham's heart, because no one would say that this late fatherhood was his invention!

One cannot doubt the Truth, which only speaks of what it really is. Jesus divided himself into three parts: I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me (John 14:6). He is the Way that leads us to the Father and brings divine power to work in us. He is the Truth that renders useless the project of the kingdom of lies against life, and He is Life that keeps us standing before the Lord. With Christ, there isn’t and there will be no danger (Romans 8.31)!

Abraham joyfully laughed with the news from Heaven. Inside, he wondered how this could be possible; after all, Sarah was far from being able to produce an egg to be fertilized. However, her youth was renewed, and suddenly her menstrual cycle returned, and she conceived at the age of 90. The Doctor of Doctors masterminded the whole process, guaranteeing Sarah a healthy pregnancy. How wonderful!

Abraham expressed his feelings sometime later, because that was something between him and his God. Sarah not only conceived, but also gave birth normally and breastfed her son until the right time. On the day Isaac was weaned, they threw a party, and the neighbors saw that the Lord's words are always fulfilled in the lives of those who love and serve Him. Believe it!

Today's Prayer

God of Good News! The patriarch of the Hebrews, and ours too, was moved and praised Your Name! You chose that day to let him know that he was going to Mount Zion. There, You would show him that all the promises coming from You are yes in Jesus!

This happens today to those who love You and experience Your mercy and love. You will never leave ashamed those who trust in You. You give the final word at the right time. That's why we love You and believe in You!

With patience and love You will do what someone thinks is impossible. We mustn't let delay weaken the faith of those who love You. In You there is amen for Your glory!
