And I said to you, ‘You have come to the mountains of the Amorites, which the Lord our God is giving us

Deuteronomy 1.20

Every Christian must be prepared to hear the Good News. However, many allow themselves to be influenced by the devil's talk and, as a result, lose the blessing when they are about to achieve it. Some become furious because of this loss and even say that they do not understand the Lord. Well, the Most High is powerful to fulfill His promises, but we do not strive to receive Abraham's inheritance (Romans 4:13-17). Listen, take it on, and give thanks!

When Moses announced that they were on the mountain of the Amorites, those who lived in negativity, as often happens with religious people, probably became desperate in the face of that challenge. If a coward leads the people, no one will leave their homes, not even to look for a job and be successful. The coward has a demon that dominates him, driving him away from people. Pray for this life!

The person's expression shows if they felt fear upon hearing something. Even if they try to deny this emotion, their facial expression does not lie. Because they were fearful, the tribal leaders asked Moses to ask the Lord if it would be better to send the spies (Deuteronomy 1:22,23). In fact, they wanted to buy time, as they were already accustomed to living in the desert and preferred to stay there rather than fight against the Amorites to conquer the land.

Moses yielded to their request and went to consult the Lord. However, they should have held a prayer meeting, praised the Almighty, and waited for Him to give them everything their frightened minds would like to have. Before we ask God anything, we must pray. We can never tell God what to do. Being omniscient, He would not accept suggestions from mortals (Isaiah 55:8,9). Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation!

The Israelites were at the foot of the mountains where the Amorites lived. Therefore, they would soon possess the lands that were promised to Abraham, then to Isaac, and finally to Jacob. God would not change a single word of what He had promised, and they would not have to fight, kill, nor see any of their dead. Since the work was the Lord's, they would live in the region they would conquer. The people of God had to be intrepid, and subsequent events confirm this thought!

Never let yourself be dominated by fear, for if that happens, it will command your life and your purposes. Once, while a strong storm broke out on the Sea of Galilee, Jesus walked on the waters to go ahead of His disciples (Mark 6:45-52). Seeing Him walk on the sea, they screamed in terror, thinking He was a ghost. However, the Master spoke to them: “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.”  (Mark 6:50b), but they continued to scream, and this made Christ enter the boat.

When He got into the boat, the storm passed. They made Him change His mind and, thus, stole from us the lesson the Lord wanted to impart with that action. It's not easy to be on the verge of a revelation and get completely lost in doubt and fear. Let the Lord give you the scheduled teachings!

Today's Prayer

God of our life and mission! How the enemy deceives us, leading us to do everything that displeases You, so that we may leave Your presence. This can never happen! We cry out for power and mercy, so that we may live before You in love and grace!

Many times, we come close to Your blessing and do not notice that the devil tries to plant fear in us. Then, we are frightened by these threats and stop following You. May nothing else hinder our communion with You!

Help us, Father, to live the best that man can obtain from You, while dwelling in You is guaranteed. We do not accept losing faith or even the salvation that You gave us in Christ Jesus. We are grateful for keeping us from stumbling and falling!
