You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; Your gentleness has made me great.

2 Samuel 22.36

King David was used in this text in a great way, teaching those who seek to live in God's presence to awaken to their rights in the Lord. Without these insights provided by the psalmist, we would be empty and weak. We must enjoy what the Lord has given us by calling us to do His will. Everything is ours!

According to David, the Most High made his feet like the feet of deer (2 Samuel 22:34) - or hinds. This is an animal whose leap drives predators crazy, as they can outrun them by running at 60 kilometers per hour. When the hunter is getting close, it can jump up to nine meters, and the hunter gives up the chase. The Lord gives us the same ability in temptations that seem to take control of our lives and destroy us (1 Corinthians 10:13). God is Father!

If your thoughts are low, leading you to despise yourself or surrender to defeat, you can escape from this situation with the speed of deer. We cannot fail to use these resources, because God has placed us on these heights for our own good. The saved only fall into the enemy's hands if they are naïve like some prey who believe that their end has come and the predator has won. Today, we have the power to rebuke those who want to devour us (Luke 10:19).

David confessed that the Almighty teached his hands (2 Samuel 22.35), giving him skills while still in his mother's womb, so that he would be victorious in battle. With the instruction of the Most High, you will never lose a battle. So be strong enough to give the predators of your soul the answer that matches the temptation you are going through. Be strong!

The strength with which you were clothed at birth in the Kingdom of Heaven is infinitely superior to the powers of the kingdom of darkness used against you. Still in verse 35, David explains that his arms could break copper bows. It doesn't matter what mission God commissions us to do; even if it's improbable for anyone else, for us, who fulfill God's will, it will be simple. In fact, the Lord is our ability, so we will succeed!

In possession of the Shield of Salvation, who will resist us? Will it be the terrible Amorites, like Sihon and Og (Numbers 21:21-30), accustomed to doing evil to anyone who crossed their path? Or the giant who despised the Israelites? To this David showed that victory belongs to those who are in the Lord's hands. Anyone, even a good-looking young man brought up in faith in God, must set an example of overcoming evil with the divine anointing upon him (1 Samuel 17).

Look at the detail of David's revelation: For your gentleness. It wasn't by brute force or any other means that David became Israel's hero, but by the gentleness of God's Spirit, which accompanied him in praising the Lord, in battles for his country and for his personal life. This is the way God has chosen to magnify His servants, and this is how you must be known.

Today's Prayer

God, our Preparer! We need You as our Lord and Master, being in Your hands. We want to be prepared for the day of trial and show our trust in You. In this way, we will overcome evil!

After You anointed us to act wonderfully in the fights for the justice of Your Kingdom, You gave us the shield of salvation. With it, we can do more than we ask or think. Father, what matters to us is Your unconditional love. Thank You!

Your Son has bought us for You and made us kings and priests to work in Your Kingdom. In order to fulfill our mission, we need Your gentleness to guide and teach us; then everything You have said about us will come true. Your purpose is to make us great!
