I am sending him to you for this very purpose, that he may know your circumstances and comfort your hearts

Colossians 4:8

In his letter to the Colossians, the apostle Paul says that he sent Tychicus, a minister of the Gospel, whom he calls a faithful and beloved brother and fellow servant in the Lord (Colossians 4:7). A person who truly loves God stands out from others, because they testify to their trust in the Almighty in everything they do and always act according to the divine will. Our actions prove who we are!

Eliezer, for example, was a faithful servant. Because he earned the trust of his master Abraham, he was given the title of steward. Eliezer witnessed the most important events in the life of the patriarch, who had seen Jesus before His pilgrimage on Earth. He witnessed Abraham's struggle for Sarah to bear a son and certainly helped raise Isaac, a symbol of Christ!

The steward played a major role in the events that established Abraham as the patriarch of the Hebrews. If Eliezer had been a servant of any wealthy man of that time, he would not have had the joy of talking to his master and seeing the honesty of this man of God. When news came that Lot, Abraham’s greedy nephew, had been taken captive by several kings, the patriarch went to God in prayer and instructed his servants to prepare to rescue his nephew.

Because he trusted in the Lord, Eliezer believed that the servants—some of whom were his sons—would fight alongside the patriarch for a just cause and return to celebrate victory. He probably participated in the coup against those evil kings and saw the reaction of the king of Sodom when he told his master to give him only their lives, for the spoils were his. At this point, Abraham asked the steward to place his hand under his thigh and swear an oath.

The patriarch's steward was leaving on a mission of the utmost trust, which is why he made his career in Abraham's house. From a simple servant, Eliezer became the one chosen to go to the patriarch’s family to find a bride for Isaac. What trust the patriarch had in this man who was a minister of God! When he arrived at a certain place, still outside the city, Eliezer knelt down and prayed, and the Lord had mercy on him and Abraham and prepared everything!

Isaac was a man of God. Because of this, he waited many years in holiness for that moment, proving that he loved the Lord above all things. One evening, as night was approaching, he was in the field praying. When he looked up, he saw Eliezer approaching with a woman. It was Rebekah. When she saw Isaac, the young woman asked the steward who that man was. Eliezer, with a trembling voice, told her: “He is your future husband.”. The steward's faithfulness rewarded him forever.

Tychicus was sent to find out how the Colossians were doing and to comfort the hearts of those brothers, who loved Paul as a man of God. We need to recognize the Tychicus that the Lord places in our lives. Ask the Lord for sensitivity to hear the divine voice and give the result He expects from His servants. Abraham was one, but the servants were many!

In Christ, with love,

Today's Prayer

Father of faithful servants! No wealth can compare to the honor You grant Your servants, for You have allowed Your shadow to rest over us. Therefore, we have walked in Your presence believing that no evil or plague will come to our tent. We rejoice greatly in being Your servants!

Send us to arrange “brides” for Your Son, because we too have been stewards of Your house and we do not want to miss out on any battle You have waged to recover the greedy “relatives” who belong to You!

May the hearts of those who love us be comforted by what You have done for us. It is so good to live under the shadow of Your wings! We want to receive more missions and orders so that, one day, we may be rewarded for loving You!
