So the Lord said to Moses: “Pharaoh’s heart is hard; he refuses to let the people go.

Exodus 7.14

Was God confused when He said this to Moses? No, He is the most perfect Being there is, and He is sovereign in any situation. Even before Pharaoh's hardened heart, the Most High encouraged His servant not to lose heart. God has the power to do the work whenever He wants and in whatever way He pleases. We are the special people of His kingdom, and His declarations show us that He is able to reason like us, to make us grow in faith in Christ, and to give the verdict in His Spirit!

Man must find the promises made by the Father to those who love Him with all their heart, which are in the pages of Scriptures (Psalm 1.1-3; 119.105). Once he has found them, he must be firm in his faith, without doubting (Mark 11.23). Pharaoh would have done better if he hadn't accepted the throne of that country. In the same way, those who fight to occupy a position that was not destined for them must act: refuse it and seek the Lord for their own good!

Throughout history, there are stories of perverse and destructive leaders who strove to be applauded as good rulers. However, they ignored the fact that one day they will stand before the great King and He will judge them (Ecclesiastes 12.14; Revelation 20.11-15). As clever as they may have been, they will fall silent before the Truth, for even what they have spoken in secret will be revealed (Luke 12.2). It's good to think twice before desiring something for which the Lord has not chosen you.

Some are able to catch a glimpse of what will happen before the throne of eternity, and they have been told that they need to be after God's own heart, as was David, king of Israel and faithful servant of the Most High: And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will’ (Acts 13.22). Ask for this blessing and it will be granted!

Anyone who hasn't been washed in the blood of Christ, doesn't have the Spirit of God and therefore hasn't received the divine call, can run for some public office. However, those who have received confirmation from Heaven to serve the Lord must never exchange the position of being chosen by God for that of being chosen by men.

The person summoned to the holy ministry of the Word must remain steadfast in this gift, without looking back (Luke 9.62).

Why forsake the work whose fruit will last for eternity, even if it is necessary to go through some need here, in exchange for the "extra" profits obtained by holding a position? This attitude is shameful. Take heed of the Master's warnings: But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly (Luke 21.34).

Who is the faithful servant to be praised by Christ? Jesus revealed it, saying: "Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching. Assuredly, I say to you, that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come and serve them (Luke 12.37). What a contrast to the one who will be called wicked and negligent and sent to the lake of fire and brimstone!

           In Christ, with love,

Today's Prayer

God of fair recognition! We need to be prepared to hear the account that You will show us of our works. Even though we are not perfect, we do not aspire to have what we could never want. Mercy!

May we free ourselves from all the snares set for us, from every illicit desire and from the traps created by the devil himself. May our lives please You! We cannot stay away from Your plans nor Your holy calling!

We want to continue serving You, even if we live with a lack of resources, recognition or help, because what motivates us most is that You have chosen us for the work, so that we can continue in the same purpose!
