And the Lord of hosts will stir up a scourge for him like the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb; as His rod was on the sea, so will He lift it up in the manner of Egypt

Isaiah 10:26

Every prophecy that comes from God will be fulfilled exactly as He has spoken, and He will do as He has said. The Word of the Lord will never return empty: So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. (Isaiah 55:11). However, it is important to discern whether the revelation is for the present or for the future.

Assyria was the greatest empire in the world at that time. For centuries, no one dared to challenge this power. No one failed to tremble when they heard that Nineveh would attack their nation. Isaiah received the message from Heaven that the Assyrians would march against Judah, but the Lord promised to raise up against them a scourge that would be their shame, like the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb.

The Midianites left Israel in want because God's people strayed from the path and gave themselves over to sin. Then they became prey in the hands of their ruthless enemy. For seven years, the Midianites appeared at harvest time to take Israel's reserves and crops and carry them off to their land. Israel saw misery coming and no longer had the will to plant. Why plant if the enemy would take everything?

The people began to pray and seek God. He heard their prayers and sent a prophet, who ran throughout Israel with a message: “I am the Lord your God; do not fear the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell.” But you have not obeyed My voice.’” (Judges 6:10). Not listening to the Most High was Israel's recurring sin. However, upon hearing this, Gideon decided to sow wheat. Those who believe see miracles!

Gideon planted wheat on his family's land so that they would have food. After harvesting, he threshed the wheat in a winepress to keep it safe from the Midianites. An angel who was watching him spoke to him, saying that God had chosen him to deliver Israel from the hands of their enemies (Judges 6:11-14). Gideon gathered 300 men and went to battle against the plunderers. Two Midianite generals (Oreb and Zeeb) fled the battlefield, were killed, and their heads were brought to Gideon (Judges 7:25). Victory!

What seemed impossible became possible because God found a man willing to obey Him to solve the problem. When a person receives divine anointing, they soon defeat the enemy. So it would be when Assyria rose up against the kingdom of Judah. God would intervene, raising up a scourge similar to what happened in the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb, when the generals and their soldiers were killed by the Israelites. God would act to save His people!

Isaiah also mentioned the crossing of the Red Sea, when Moses stretched out his staff over the sea, the waters receded, and Pharaoh's army perished in the path opened for Israel to pass. Thus, the Egyptians would never again oppress the Israelites!

Today's Prayer

Living and active God! Who would have thought that the presumptuous Pharaoh would be defeated when Moses touched the waters of the sea? They were parted by You so that Israel could cross on dry land. The Egyptians rejoiced when they pursued Your people, but they met their own destruction!

Pharaoh considered himself more intelligent than You, Lord, insisting that the Egyptian soldiers follow the same path You had opened. They did not know that You opened the sea only for Israel to pass through, no one else. You are the Way that leads us to freedom!

Our burden has been lifted from our shoulders, the yoke has been broken, and the neck of Your people is free. We are Your people and, therefore, we will never lose any battle. We will be firm and trust in You, O God!
