Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks and herds and tents

Genesis 13:5

From an early age, alongside his uncle, Lot attended the best school of that time, having Abraham as his teacher. Lot saw him lose Sarah, the woman he loved and respected so much, because she had been taken to be another wife of the king of Egypt. He also witnessed Abraham praying and refusing to be comforted, because the Lord would protect him from all harm (Genesis 12:10-20). Abraham did not treat his nephew as a slave; on the contrary, he encouraged him to prosper as well.

Lot had witnessed Abraham build the altar in Bethel when they arrived from Ur of the Chaldeans (Genesis 12:4-9). His uncle's fear of God made an impression on him, and in turn, he also learned to fear the Lord. However, what no one expected would soon happen: his separation from Abraham. This separation occurred because the land could no longer support the flocks of the two, which increased every day. Lot would be put to the test and then show what was in his heart, which leaned toward wealth and not God.

Many families fight over inheritance; in some cases, these disagreements end in death. Why don't people act with more understanding toward others when making necessary decisions? In the story we are studying, not only was the land too small for the size of their flocks, but Lot did not rebuke his shepherds, who quarreled with his uncle’s shepherds (Genesis 13:1-7). It is sad to see how people change when it comes to money.

Those who serve the Lord can improve their lives. However, they must never open their hearts to the adversary, because this attitude displeases God. Ceasing to walk with the Father and not repenting are common actions of those who disrespect Him and conduct themselves without divine fear. Why does man sell himself so cheaply to the enemy, choosing to transgress? Unfortunately, among all peoples, we find many acting in this way.

Prosperity was the mark of several servants of God, as was the case with Uzziah, son of Amaziah, who reigned for 55 years in Jerusalem: He sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God; and as long as he sought the Lord, God made him prosper. (2 Chronicles 26:5). Those who are faithful to the Lord today can believe in His Word, which says: I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10b)!

Lot was blessed because he stayed close to Abraham, who had the blessing. We too will be blessed if we stay close to Christ, who declared: And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28.18). Does what was given to the Savior operate in the financial area? Yes, in finances and in the health of the body, soul, and spirit, as well as in family relationships. He is the Almighty!

Seek to know the Scriptures in order to participate in all the promises that the Lord will fulfill in our lives. He Himself said: Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. (Mark 13.31) You can and should believe in Him who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He guarantees that none of His words will fail. Believe, pray, and live fulfilled!

In Christ, with love,

Today's Prayer

Father, Lord, and Friend! Your Word will never cease to work; therefore, we can live abundantly. There is no way the devil can overthrow any of Your words, because they are the full Truth. We are satisfied with Your love!

Lot lived alongside his uncle Abraham. We live in Christ, and He lives in us. Therefore, we can go to the end without ever faltering. Jesus, Your beloved Son and faithful Savior, has already won our battle. He stripped the devil of the authority stolen from Adam and Eve!

Whoever trusts in You and learns the right way to do Your work and live above evil will accomplish more than they imagine. We rejoice in the salvation You have given us in this life and forever!
