Now within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your place, and you will put Pharaoh’s cup in his hand according to the former manner, when you were his butler.

Genesis 40.13

To his brothers, Joseph was insolent, irresponsible and wanted to be the greatest in his house. But for God, he was a vessel chosen to do the will of the Lord in those days (Genesis 37.12-20). Joseph suffered for giving the Lord a place in his life, but he fulfilled his mission with devotion and love. Vanity was not his defining trait, but submission to the Almighty. Joseph was used tremendously by the counsel of God's will. May we also know how to love the Most High and serve Him!

Only those who have the Holy Spirit can faithfully describe Joseph's saga, so that God can be glorified through human participation. Who is the man who can and must contribute to the Kingdom of Heaven being magnified? Undoubtedly, he who does not aspire to be applauded, but submits in his heart to the eternal plan revealed by the Lord. This person will also know what it is like to suffer, to be betrayed and vindicated for the sake of divine love (Philippians 1.29).

After the trials, the time had come for Joseph to be used as a prophet. He was in prison in Egypt, where his gift also flourished and became a blessing to the other prisoners (Genesis 39). Two men came to him to tell him what they had dreamed, and the son of Jacob was able to give them the meaning of the dreams. He prophesied to the cupbearer that he would be freed and serve wine to the king again, and to the baker that he would be killed. The prophecies were fulfilled.

The world is in great need of servants of the Lord who are only faithful, disinterested in material things and people’s applause! Glory should only be given to those who truly deserve it and not to those who are eager to occupy positions that were not intended for them. There is nothing better than receiving the Lord’s comfort, but for that to happen, you need to be what the Most High has determined. Only true servants can serve God (Luke 12.42,43).

Examining Joseph's life, we see that the best thing is to submit to God's will. Who would have thought that Jacob's son would reach a position of such responsibility? (Genesis 41) His dreams were of great value to humanity in that part of the world. Surrendering to the Lord's purpose is making the right decision. Everything that happens to us, good or bad, shows us precious lessons that will enable us to accomplish something greater and nobler in the future.

Joseph's time had come to show who he was: he left prison to become governor of Egypt, one of the greatest countries of all time. What was his previous experience? Well, he was head of Pharaoh's butler's household and then a leader in prison. But his real experience was knowing how to speak, trust and act wisely, as God instructed him. His faith in his father's God led him to such an enviable position. He was second in the Egyptian hierarchy.

What has God prepared for you? Well, no one knows, but if you love Him with all your heart and serve Him with all your strength, setting an example and resisting the devil, you will be who He has determined and prepared you to be.

           In Christ, with love,

Today's Prayer

God of the perfect choice! Jesus said that we didn't choose Him, but He chose us. Joseph didn't choose or strive to be what You wanted for him, but You guided him to the right place, giving him a power he had never asked for!

It was good that the Savior spoke of our choice and nomination. Even though everything and everyone is against us, if we serve You, we will get to where You have appointed us to reign in life. Thank You for appointing us to do Your will!

Joseph prophesied to the cupbearer, he didn't speak about himself; after all, that was under Your counsel and couldn't be revealed before the time. He knew how to wait on You. Grant us that kind of faith! We don't want to frustrate You, Lord. Deliver us from temptation!
