Edom also shall be an astonishment; everyone who goes by it will be astonished and will hiss at all its plagues.

Jeremiah 49.17

At the judgment of the Edomites, the Lord showed what judgment will be like for those who let vanity, terribleness, arrogance, and the fragility of self-confidence dominate their hearts. Our trust must be in the Lord alone, because no matter what we do or how many ways we create to protect ourselves, they won't be able to keep us from anything. Whoever places their faith in the Most High will be safe, well-oriented, and happy. God is Almighty!

Anyone who knew the country of Edom and admired its self-protection, without believing what would happen to the people, would be amazed at how that once fertile place would be reduced to a desert. God's help is necessary for us to live well, and it comes through faith given by Him, by heeding His commandments (Romans 10.17). There's nothing better than following our heavenly Father's orders!

Now, here's the question: is it worth it to be so protective, arrogant and uncivil to everyone you know? No. God will judge those who give in to the spirit of evil. You can't oppress or fail to respect your neighbor's rights, because the Lord will be the judge of the situation. For Him, we are all equal, rich or poor, educated or uneducated. He makes no distinction between us (Acts 10:34)!

God expects us to be brothers to people from other nations and, if we believe the Scriptures, we will accept that everyone is our brother twice, the first time in Adam and the second time in Noah, after the end of the Flood and the beginning of the Covenant with God (Genesis 9). So always reach out; tomorrow it maybe you who needs help. As the saying goes: “Do good without looking at whom”, doing the good work in the Name of Jesus!

People would stare in amazement at the tragedy that befell those people. Just as it happened to the Edomites, it can happen to us if we are arrogant. There is nothing better than fearing God and loving our neighbor as ourselves (Matthew 22.39). Don't discriminate against or despise anyone, even if they are wrong. Your greatest glory will be to do good to those who need it. If you were in the wrong, wouldn't you want to be loved too?

The impending plagues on those who don't fulfill the Lord's purpose are recorded in the Bible. So read the Word to see that many evils are the consequences of the way you live. Read Deuteronomy 28.15 to the end. Is there a solution for you? Yes, Jesus offers to help anyone who wants to be changed (Matthew 11.28-30). Take advantage of the Master's invitation and free yourself now!

What's the point of waiting until the plagues have completely destroyed you if you can make the decision now to be set free and blessed? God will forgive your mistakes, make you born again and become a blessing to all. Go to the Lord right now, He's just waiting for your yes. Invite Him to come in and save your life completely!

           In Christ, with love,

Today's Prayer

God of special wonders! It would be good if everyone listened to what You say. Without a doubt, we would please You splendidly and thus be unbeatable in all the battles we fight. To You be the glory!

The arrogant Edomites persisted in practices contrary to Your Word. Your warnings didn't matter to them, but in the end they found themselves at a dead end. Then they realized that they would have done better if they had been Your servants.

Let no one imitate them, but rather come out of error, for what is said will happen to those who reject Your guidance. To access Your mercy, we must love You and live within Your most holy will and love!
