I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church
Colossians 1.24
The more we learn from Jesus, the more we become participants in His work. Those who have become members of His Body must never forget what they were in the past, when they had no hope of salvation. Those who have repented of their mistakes and converted to the Lord must be convinced that no one can make them return to living in darkness, for living in the light is infinitely better.
God's servants think differently from those who do not know the Lord. Even if they are undergoing trials or persecution or contempt from others, they are able to rejoice in God (Matthew 5:11-12). Even if some are persecuted for the “crime” of finding happiness in Jesus, for the saved, to live is Christ, and to die is gain (Philippians 1.21). Our heavenly Father deserves our praise!
If we are being used by God and walking in dependence on Him, nothing will catch us off guard, not even situations that embarrass us or cause us to suffer the wrath of people who rise up against us. We are compared to sheep sent to the slaughter (Romans 8:36). Let no one be dismayed by what they may suffer! We were warned of this by Jesus: These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16.33). He is faithful!
Those who are lost are often terrified at the thought of living without freedom or in undignified conditions. The saved do not fear afflictions. After all, God knows everything and has the power to do what is necessary for them to live well. However, if they suffer for Christ's sake, they will be aware that this is for the best (Acts 5:41).
Paul's letter to the Colossians was written during his imprisonment. Unlike most people, he said he rejoiced in what he suffered for those brothers (Colossians 1:24). For the apostle, suffering for the love of Jesus was a blessing he would not give up. It doesn't matter whether we live in peace and prosperity, or if difficult times, persecution, and death threats come. We are already saved!
Paul fulfilled in his flesh the rest of Christ's afflictions. This should keep us awake and vigilant, for if we had to suffer under someone's whip, why would we flee in despair? Imagine what the apostle and other Christians felt when they considered themselves worthy to suffer for the Savior! They will be rewarded for having been martyrs of the faith. They will reign forever with the Lord. Believe!
When Paul speaks of the Body of Christ, he refers to the Church of the Lord (1 Corinthians 12:27; Ephesians 4:4). A saved person has nothing more to complain about, because they have received as a special gift from Heaven what is necessary to live well and fulfill the Father's will (2 Peter 1:3). God has a plan for all those who are accepted into His family. Believe, pray, and live happily!

Today's Prayer
God of our rejoice! Suffering, which for many would be a mistake on Your part, for us, the saved, is the greatest blessing. One day, we will sit in the seats reserved for the faithful in Christ and then receive the promised reward. We are inalienable parts of Jesus!
Father, suffering for Your work is proof that we are with You in all situations. What matters most to us is to stand before You. As proof that we are Your chosen one, You allow us to go through tribulations, but You remain with us!
Fulfilling the rest of Christ's afflictions is the best we can do now. Having the seal of Your Spirit, we will endure all trials and be approved. Now, if it is not yet time to suffer for love of You, let us preach the Gospel to show everyone Who You are!
