Who will bring me to the strong city? Who will lead me to Edom?

Psalm 60.9

Three thousand years ago, King David was guided by God when he composed Psalm 60. When he wrote it, he probably did not understand it. Therefore, he asked the Most High who would lead him to the strong city, referring to Edom, the capital of the kingdom of the descendants of Esau, Jacob's brother. David was used as a prophet, for, about 300 years later, Isaiah revealed that it was Jesus who would go to the city of the Edomites, which symbolizes, in poetic language, the infernal kingdom.

The person used by the Lord often places themselves in the same position as the one who wrote something much deeper and more prophetic than what they were reporting. There are countless revelations in the Bible that were given to us in this manner, and all must have the touch of the Holy Spirit to come to light. Therefore, always read the Holy Book with an open heart, so that you may enrich your soul with these teachings.

The prophet Isaiah was also used at the beginning of chapter 63, from verse 1 to 6, to describe someone with stained garments. Later, the apostle Paul revealed that this figure was Jesus, when He descended into Hell and stripped Satan and the demons of the usurped authority of our first parents, thus freeing us from the devil's hand: Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it (Colossians 2.15).

No one went with Christ to the decisive battle, in which He defeated the leader of the insurrection that took place in Heaven, when a third of God's angels joined Lucifer in his revolt against the Father: His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. (Revelation 12.4a). The Almighty did not fight against the devil, here revealed as the dragon, but the archangel Michael did (v. 12.7). He cleansed the heavenly regions!

Isaiah spoke about the return of Christ from Edom: Who is this who comes from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah, this One who is glorious in His apparel, traveling in the greatness of His strength? — “I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.” (Isaiah 63.1). Next, the prophet asked another question: Why is Your apparel red, and Your garments like one who treads in the winepress? (verse.2). He explained as if the war were physical.

The prophet continued describing the great battle in which the devil was stripped of the power he had stolen from man: I have trodden the winepress alone, and from the peoples no one was with Me. For I have trodden them in My anger, and trampled them in My fury; Their blood is sprinkled upon My garments, and I have stained all My robes. (Isaiah 63.3). Everything the Bible speaks of is for our teaching and admonition, so that we may be victorious in Christ.

The reason the Savior did this is explained: For the day of vengeance is in My heart, and the year of My redeemed has come. (Isaiah 63.4). Rejoice, for we live in a time of victory over sin, diseases, and other sufferings. I looked, but there was no one to help, and I wondered that there was no one to uphold; therefore My own arm brought salvation for Me; and My own fury, it sustained Me (verse 5).

Today's Prayer

Lord! The work accomplished by Your Son on the cross was perfect, for it saved us from perdition. Now, we are in the phase of fulfilling Your plan for success in evangelizing the lost. Your Kingdom will grow marvelously!

Father, Jesus was led to the strong city in Your way. There, the arm that You gave Him sustained Him, so nothing was left undone after that day. We are grateful for Your love and power! Thus, we fulfill Your calling with dignity and perfection!

The Savior went to Edom and ended the dominion of the king of wickedness, so that nothing more needs to be done against him, except what is reserved for him: to burn in the lake of fire and brimstone forever. You are good to Your Church!
