Take careful heed to yourselves, for you saw no form when the Lord spoke to you at Horeb out of the midst of the fire

Deuteronomy 4:15

The Israelites’ journey through the desert was planned by God. He fed them with heavenly bread so that they could stand firm and have their strength renewed for the battles they would face and surely win. We must partake of the bread given by the Lord as we read and hear His Word (Luke 4:4), for this nourishment strengthens us to overcome the adversities we must face.

The Israelites were taught to diligently guard their souls, so as not to set a bad example by creating images of things God had not shown them and that do not exist. The Most High knows the danger posed by graven images. Behind them are evil spirits that present themselves as good, yet blind us and prepare us for final defeat on the Last Day (1 Corinthians 10:19–21). Flee from them!

Anyone who is careless with their own soul, failing to examine everything they hear from the pulpits of many congregations, will discover how harmful it is to disobey God. Although we are saved by Christ’s sacrifice on Calvary, we are still susceptible to temptation; therefore, we are instructed to be vigilant, carefully examining what we are told concerning the divine will.

The devil knows that he cannot touch us (1 John 5:18), but just as he tempted Christ (Matthew 4), he comes with his offers. Sadly, many abandon the path of the cross and follow the ways of hellish evil. Those who fail to guard their souls may see them overtaken by the forces of darkness. We must watch and pray so that we do not fall into the temptations that seek to separate us from Christ, our Lord. Let us do our part!

In the days of Moses, God spoke to the Israelites from the midst of the fire, while the mountain trembled and smoked. They feared that something terrible might happen to them. On that day, the Most High, the absolute Lord, made a Covenant with them that included promises and obligations, and they committed themselves to do their part (Exodus 19). In the New Covenant established by Jesus with all who accept Him as Savior and Lord, it is necessary to believe in Him and obey His teachings (John 14:21), turning away from religious falsehoods.

We are surrounded by the Lord’s promises, which will be fulfilled whenever we need His intervention. Because of them, we will never stumble over the obstacles the evil one places in our path to draw us away from a life of peace and victory. We belong to the Master’s disciples and are entrusted with proclaiming the Good News to those who desire to be happy forever. In Christ, we are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37)!

By guarding your faith, you keep your soul pure. Is that not what the apostle Paul did? He fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7). Faith is our connection with our heavenly Father. Therefore, do not abandon it, and you will always walk in victory!

In Christ, with love,

Today's Prayer

Beloved Lord! Your Son received the mission to come to Earth and make the New Covenant through His blood shed on Calvary. You led us to Christ, so that His sacrifice would include us in the New Covenant!

We thank You for this wonderful and eternal plan of Yours, which freed us from the yoke of the world, the flesh, and sin, uniting us to You and Your Son. Therefore, we are one with You as Jesus was!

We believe the words recorded in John 17:20–23. We offer our gratitude for the work accomplished by Christ and for the Holy Scriptures, which were inspired by Your Holy Spirit. Bless those who, like us, believe in You!
