THE DAY OF DELIVERY

Then Deborah said to Barak, Up! For this is the day in which the Lord has delivered Sisera into your hand. Has not the Lord gone out before you?” So Barak went down from Mount Tabor with ten thousand men following him

Judges 4.14

When the first signs appeared in the east that dawn was near, Deborah, judge in Israel, was ready for victory. She knew that God would do something very different from what her people had ever seen before: This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118.24). The Israelites should rejoice and be glad in God, for He had promised that they would be successful.

Since Jesus' victory over the devil, when He stripped the hosts of Hell of their ability to divert us from obedience to God, we now have the power to overcome all the enemy's forces. Paul spoke about this: Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. (Colossians 2.15). There is no way for a Christian to lose a single battle, just as there was no way for Barak to be defeated. Believe!

There are three important days in human history. The first began with Adam's fall in the Garden of Eden, when death came to reign on Earth. The second began with the Law of Moses, when everyone could live free from the enemy's action by fulfilling the requirements of the Law. The third day is when the devil and his demons were stripped of their authority by Jesus. We live in this unique age as victors.

Once, some Pharisees went to the Master to warn Him about Herod's hatred and “advise” Him to leave the synagogue where He was teaching, because the tetrarch wanted to kill Him. Then, with His characteristic calm, the Savior said: And He said to them, “Go, tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.’ (Luke 13.32). Yesterday was Jesus' day here on Earth; today means the day that Christ does the same works through us; tomorrow, the third day, will be our rapture.

Deborah hurried Barak, because God had already gone ahead of him. Her warning also applies to us. When we pray and feel the “green light,” we must go into battle without any hesitation. We need to go into battle certain of victory. God will fix whatever is necessary, for He has the power to make us victorious. He will never abandon us or forsake us. Barak had to believe this, for the Lord would do the rest, and He did!

Barack believed Deborah's words and went down to battle. Sisera's defeat was decreed: he would lose the fight, his army would be decimated, and King Jabin would be mad with rage, red with shame, and bankrupt forever, for he had spent all his money on what was not bread (Isaiah 55:2). How can you defeat a people who have the Almighty on the frontline? God called on the forces of nature to contribute. It rained terribly, and the Kishon River flooded the valley!

Deborah went with Barak to battle and saw the hand of God performing mighty deeds. The valley was filled with water, the enemy's iron chariots were immobilized, the horses' hooves cracked, and the Canaanite artillery soldiers died in those raging waters. Jael, the wife of Heber, defeated Sisera with just a stake (Judges 4:21; 5:20-22).

Today's Prayer

God of our victory! It is good to remember what You did in the past! Your promise to us is to never leave us nor forsake us, as well as to deliver us from our enemies who, at all costs, insist on silencing us. We cannot live without Your holy presence!

The wicked Jabin hired Sisera, who gathered a formidable army to destroy Your people. Now, not even the Pharaoh of Egypt, a great empire in ancient times, could stop Israel, much less Jabin!

Who are these who, today, attack Your people, plot evil deeds to delay Your work and prevent the salvation of the lost, when even their leader, Satan, has lost everything he stole from Adam and cannot stop Your action? We ask for the manifestation of Your mercy to those who can still be saved!
