WHAT DECISION TO MAKE?

He who remains in this city shall die by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence; but he who goes out and defects to the Chaldeans who besiege you, he shall live, and his life shall be as a prize to him.

Jeremiah 21.9

We need to make wise decisions at all times. That way, we won't be in the hands of the evil one, who sends his temptations when we least expect it. Judah's choice involved living free or going into captivity. If they chose to live free, they would have to hide so as not to be found. If they were in Jerusalem, where Babylonian fury could be seen, there was a great chance that they would be killed.

In everyday life, we are confronted by provocation or danger, when, for example, a mugger says: “Money or life”. Often armed, they also run the risk of being shot by the person they're approaching, even if they seem peaceful, or by someone standing near them with a gun. Everyone around them could be hurt. Only God can help at a time like this.

It's good to be in communion with God, without any sin. Otherwise, we are separated from the Lord and run the risk of being the victims at the wrong time and in the wrong place. One of the promises to keep in our hearts is this: No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your tent (Psalm 91.10). Often, a person decides to leave where they are, and minutes later tragedy strikes!

Anyone who lives in the presence of God should be wary of doing business with anyone, even if they are known to him and have a reputation for honesty. It may be that, because they are in trouble, they take out a “loan” to get urgent money, if they see the opportunity. Only the Lord can help. This is how he put it: Without Me you can do nothing (John 15:5c). God is faithful!

Be prudent! Depending on the situation, you may be asked to save someone who has fallen into the water, but if you can't swim and the place is deep, you will both drown. Imagine that, during a service, a church member has a stroke and dies. The family of the deceased then asks the pastor to resurrect the person, but he doesn't know how to listen to the Lord and, in the face of despair, obeys the family, only for the dead person not to return. Jesus declares: Without Me you can do nothing.

Walk with the Lord, being righteous before Him. In a situation similar to the one mentioned by the prophet, God will help you decide. Now, if you surrender to the enemy, the people will not forgive you. If you stay in the city, you could also be killed. But the salvation of the righteous is from the LORD; He is their strength in time of trouble. And the LORD shall help them and deliver them; He shall deliver them from the wicked and save them, because they trust in Him (Psalm 37:39,40). God does what's best!

Never get involved in the confusion of men, but continue as a wise servant, faithfully following the Word. When the Lord directs our steps and we obey Him, no threat or trap from the devil will prosper against us. Believe and live!

Today's Prayer

Lord of our deliverance! There are brothers and sisters in Christ living in risky places, where the bad element rules and stray bullets are a constant. But if we have You as our Father, Savior and Protector, nothing bad will happen to us. You are our true Guardian!

We are in Covenant with You, in which the promises concern us. Therefore, Your servant will trust You to protect him and his family. Deliver the one who loves You, so that the enemy will not be victorious. Why did Judah stray so far from you?

Let's leave hypotheses aside. We don't need to think about them, but believe that we are Your people, guarded by You. A thousand will fall on our side and ten thousand on our right, but we will not be hit. We thank You for Your guarantee and responsibility!
