WHY FEAR?

But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm

Matthew 8.26

During the violent storm on the Sea of Galilee, the disciples underwent a great trial of faith. As they rowed, the boat was battered by the waves, and Jesus slept. Was the Master so sleepy that the storm did not bother Him, or did He just want to teach them a good lesson? I chose the latter option. Nothing is worse than realizing you are in danger and having someone sleeping next to you. So, as the wind grew stronger and the sea became increasingly rough, they decided to wake Him up so that He could help them.

How often does it seem that our problems will destroy us? We counted on the Lord's help, but time passed, and there was no sign that He would come to our aid. What should we do? Jesus' disciples woke Him up and cried out, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” (Matthew 8.25b). Like them, we must “wake up” our Helper and cry out for His urgent help.

If, one day, you find yourself in a similar situation; if the storms of life surround you in such a way that you fear and see no sign that God is at work, rise up and, in the Name of Jesus, demand that the evil, which seems to be winning the fight, retreat and never return. Before rebuking the wind, Christ questioned His disciples: “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Watch and pray!

At that moment, it was not the disciples' lack of faith, but rather the presence of fear that overwhelmed them. Now, this feeling is a wide door through which the enemy can attack us in such a way that we cannot even think straight. At such times, it is best to trust with all our hearts in the One who has never failed us, Jesus, and rebuke evil so that it disappears and peace reigns once again.

Jesus did what any of them could have done, but that did not happen. Now, we must believe in rebuking the winds and the sea so that the storm will pass, and imitate Him, for it is a valuable lesson. However, this will only be possible if we are in full communion with God (John 15:1-7). We must act as masters of the situation before it seems that the winds will go away and the sea will be silent. Follow what Christ taught and act in His Name (John 14:12).

We cannot behave like people who say one thing but wait for others to speak up. The devil always acts in this way, but we cannot fear him. Believing that Jesus taught us the Truth, we must proceed based on it: Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written: “That You may be justified in Your words, and may overcome when You are judged.” (Romans 3.4b). If every man must be a liar, how much more so when it comes to demons.

Nothing is more rewarding than trusting in the fact that the Word will never fail. Therefore, do not allow sin, lies, or anything else evil to exist in your life. You can and should act in the Name of Jesus, trusting in God; after all, He trusts those He calls to participate in His Kingdom.

Today's Prayer

God of all things! How wonderful it was that Jesus' disciples were in the boat while He slept. How many times have we let You “sleep” and, without waiting, the enemy appears with storms? We can't be afraid!

We are men of little faith, but even so, it is enough to win our fights. We thank you for loving us and taking us out of the clutches of the evil one. We just need to believe and rebuke the forces of darkness to glorify You!

You teach us the right way to act in the face of evil. At this moment, we take possession of the authority of Your Name and order evil to leave our lives. We rebuke him, saying, “Leave in the Name of Jesus”!
